Five Blog Themes I Still Like and Keep Coming Back To

Every now and then, I like to gather the blog themes I’ve seen or actually used that still match my personal taste. Part of it is for future tinkering, and part of it is just in case someone out there happens to like the same kind of style.

O’Connor

This was an original theme by Fage, and also the first paid theme I ever bought. Unfortunately, it seems to have vanished from the web entirely. I can’t even find a demo anymore.

Lonesome

This was the second paid theme I used, and it’s also the one my site is currently running.

That said, my version is no longer close to the author’s original release. I’ve made quite a few changes over time, and just a few days ago I enabled the online font LXGW WenKai as well. It’s the kind of typeface that gets more pleasing the longer you look at it.

Later on, the author moved their blog to Typecho, and the WordPress version of Lonesome stopped receiving updates. After that, the site itself also seems to have gone offline.

So I do have a small question in mind: if another blogger happens to want this theme under those circumstances, would it be okay for me to simply share it directly?

A two-column WordPress text theme based on Twenty Twelve

The original base was Twenty Twelve, one of WordPress’s official default themes. It was later modified by xuv.cc into a version known as Wooden Man, and then Xiao Hu made further changes on top of that to better fit his own preferences. There used to be a demo available on Lao Zhang’s blog for anyone curious about how that version looked in practice.

Once

True to its name, once this theme is released, it should be able to satisfy most people’s needs for a blog website. Once you have it, you won’t want anything else.

I’ve kept this free blog theme in my bookmarks for a long time. The design is clean, understated, and the kind that stays attractive without trying too hard. It’s one of those themes that feels easy to keep looking at over time.

Hera

This is an older theme that Fage recently updated, and it really does look quite good. There was also a demo available on a blog called Travel Notes.

The English font uses Open Sans. This theme is made in the old way, does not rely on third-party frameworks, is still not a block theme, and uses the latest Pantone Color of the Year. It has also been adapted for the author’s own plugins, and the full plugin set is strongly recommended.

By the way, the previously listed business theme Factory still hadn’t been sold. If anyone has the right connections, it could probably use some help finding a buyer.
